Yr2 Trip to Crystal Palace Park

Yr2 were amazed by the impressive dinosaur statues in Crystal Palace Park on their trip this week.

This morning, Yr2 got the train from Honor Oak Park to Crystal Palace Park. They visited Dinosaur Court to see some of the statues made by artist Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins in 1854. They have been busy learning all about Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins during their history and geography lessons. Today, they got to see them in person and had the opportunity to sketch some of their favourite dinosaurs.

They found out that the statues are about 170 years old and some have been restored over the years to preserve these beautiful sculptures. Yr2 were particularly impressed by how many different dinosaur sculptures they saw this morning and their favourites were: the iguanodon and the plesiosaurus.

After visiting Dinosaur Court, the children also had a chance to play in the park, look at the maps of the local area and even see some of the animals in the farm. They had a great time and, as always, their behaviour was exceptional. We are very proud of them for being so fantastic and for the beautiful drawings that they produced!
