RE

Aim

As a Catholic school, we follow an RE curriculum approved by the diocese. The programme that we use is Come and See. This scheme of learning is centred around teaching children in principles of gospel teachings and the importance of being loving, kind and respectful. We encourage pupils to live out these gospel values in their daily lives and this is firmly embedded in our school ethos.

Come and See

Come and See is a Catholic Primary Religious Education programme for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The programme of study was written by a group of experienced diocesan advisors and is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism and the RE Curriculum Directory.

The child friendly material provided within Come and See allows children to explore the teachings of the Catholic church through the use of age-appropriate resources and activities. Each year group from Reception to Yr6 have their own list of focus topics to consider throughout the academic year, and these topics will coincide with the church calendar. These topics include the following themes: 

  • Beginnings 
  • Homes
  • Promises
  • Journeys
  • Gifts
  • Building Bridges
  • Life Choices
  • Freedom and Responsibility
  • Opportunities
  • Treasures

The scheme of learning also includes learning about other faiths such as: Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Judaism. Please see the RE Curriculum Map below for more information. 

 

Catholic Social Teaching 

As a school, we are continuing to work with the children on the importance of Catholic Social Teaching. Catholic Social Teaching is the part of Catholic teaching that addresses matters of social, economic and ecological justice in the world. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world. The seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching are: 

  • Dignity
  • Solidarity
  • The common good 
  • The option for the poor
  • Peace
  • Creation and environment 
  • The dignity of work and participation
