Computing

Aim

At St William of York, we aim to provide children with a Computing curriculum that prepares them to navigate our modern society. It is essential for children to be well-equipped in regards to using a wide range of software and we aim to develop their skills in a positive and safe way. Online safety is at the heart of our curriculum and it filters through into all units of work.

Approach

To support the delivery of our Computing curriculum we use a scheme of learning called Purple Mash. Purple Mash is an award-winning cross curricular website for primary school children, enabling them to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. The key components of the curriculum are:

  • Coding
  • Data handling
  • Online Safety
  • Publishing
  • Animation
  • Searching
  • Typing
  • Communication
  • Hardware
  • Networks

More information can be found in the Curriculum Map below.

Now Press Play

As a school, we also subscribe to Now Press Play. Now Press Play is an immersive audio resource connecting primary school children with their learning through sound, storytelling and movement. This complements their learning in many areas of the curriculum and is typically used to enhance teaching of new topics.
