Peer Mediators
A number of pupils in Yr5 and Yr6 are trained to be Peer Mediators during playtimes. The role of a Peer Mediator is to help to resolve any problems that may arise in the playground, and to ensure all children feel included and have someone to play with. The Peer Mediators are well-equipped to provide support and assurances at playtime as they have all received certificates in the Restorative approach and all have fantastic listening skills.
The Restorative Approach:
- Centred on relationships, which are built on mutual respect
- Encourages individuals to take responsibility for their actions
- A mindset, providing the foundation to build, maintain and repair relationships
- A 'way of being' that creates a culture of challenge and support
- Aims to work with people rather than doing things to or for them
