Music

Aim

At St William of York, we are committed to ensuring that children have rich and varied musical experiences. We are fortunate enough to have a talented and experienced music teacher, who delivers outstanding music lessons to all children from Nursery to Yr6.

Lewisham Music Service

We also work with Lewisham Music Service to provide whole-class, instrumental lessons; these are delivered by specialists. At the moment, the whole class music sessions are allocated as follows:

  • Djembe drumming: Yr2 and Yr6
  • Recorders: Yr4
  • Brass: Yr5

In addition to these whole class lessons, parents can also choose to pay for small group lessons for children who would like to learn violin or brass.

Choir

On Tuesdays 3.15 - 4.15pm, we run a school choir and this is open to all pupils from Yr3 upwards. We currently have approximately 45 pupils in this choir and they perform at various events throughout the school year. One key event for the choir is the performance for Young Voices at the O2 Arena! They are busy practising for this at the moment.

Rocksteady Music

We also have Rocksteady Music School delivering high-quality music lessons to pupils, who opt in for these sessions. These school band lessons celebrate fun, individuality and creativity. Rocksteady's inclusive approach helps children find a sense of belonging through new friendships and a shared love of music, whilst boosting social skills, wellbeing and confidence.
