History

Aim 

St William of York provides an engaging history curriculum that aims to foster a love of history, spark curiosity and illuminate how the past impacts on the present. Our curriculum is designed to be diverse to ensure that it is representative of our school community. We cover the National Curriculum objectives through a variety of topics and themes. Further information can be found in the curriculum map at the bottom of this page. 

Approach 

To support the delivery of our history curriculum, we use the Primary Knowledge Curriculum. The PKC history curriculum is broad and enables children to look in depth at local, national and world history. This encourages pupils to explore the connection between significant events and people and how they have influenced the modern world. 

We teach topics in a cross-curricular way, and therefore, pupils will explore their historical topics through their English lessons, art projects and musical endeavours. 

Enrichment

At St William of York, we aim to enhance pupils' learning experiences in history through trips, visits and workshops. Each class aims to attend an educational trip or workshop every term, and this is often twice a term. These trips and visits are always linked to a topic area and enrich pupils' experiences of history. 

We also plan topic days in school where we invite children to dress in historical costumes, engage in extra-curricular activities and roleplay the historical period.
