This week's letter from Mrs Mayers...

Dear Parents and Carers

We have had some really exciting events in school this week! The GB Gymnast, Saffron Severn, visited our school on Tuesday to encourage the children to be resilient and brave in their pursuit of their hopes and dreams. She was an inspiration and the children worked so hard on the circuit exercises. We are very proud of them for their efforts! To read more about this event please see the news article on our website, which can be found here.

We have already received lots of sponsorship forms for the Great Athletes event but there is still time to return your forms to school as the deadline for this is Friday 25th October. Prizes will be distributed after half-term.

We also had a very special Induction Mass this week to welcome me as the new Headteacher of St William of York. The children read and sung beautifully, and it was a very moving service. With each day, I continue to be blown away by how fantastic our children are and I am delighted to be the headteacher of such a wonderful school. More information about the Induction Mass can be found in the Latest News section of our website, which you can access here.

It is so lovely to see so many parents attending Morning Challenge each day, however, I would like to take this opportunity to gently remind you to exit via the school gate and avoid using the main entrance. The main entrance is used to manage visitors to the school, and if parents use the main entrance in the morning, this means sometimes visitors are let into the building without speaking to the school office, which poses a safeguarding risk for our children. Thank you for your support with this.

Kind regards

Hayley Mayers (Headteacher)

Yesterday's Induction Mass was filled with heartfelt moments as we officially welcomed Mrs. Mayers into her new role as Head Teacher. The children and parents offered her meaningful gestures, symbolising the many different parts of our school that she will now nurture and lead. Year 6 students brought items representing the enrichment opportunities at SWOY, while Year 5 presented a map to highlight our close relationship with the parish. Year 4 shared a photo of our school community, and Year 3 brought medical supplies, symbolising her care for our physical and emotional well-being. Year 2 presented exercise books to reflect the high-quality learning under her guidance, and Year 1 shared a dove, representing her role as a peacemaker. SWOYSA offered tokens, symbolising the fundraising efforts Mrs. Mayers will lead to support our community. It was a beautiful moment of unity, faith, and gratitude as we brought the gifts of the Eucharist to the altar, giving thanks for the many blessings that Mrs. Mayers will continue to help grow in our school. #WelcomeMrsMayers #InductionMass #CommunitySpirit #FaithInLeadership #GrowingTogether

Thank you to everyone who attended the first Well Being Community Tea on 21st September. We had meaningful discussions about ways we support our own positive mental health, explored barriers, and identified one key takeaway to incorporate into our regular routines moving forward. Some community activity ideas discussed included:

  • Bereavement group
  • Art therapy
  • Talks by invited guests
  • Support for Year 6-7 transition

Training for Well Being Champions will be held on 9th November 2024, from 10am to 4pm at Café York. If you're interested in attending, please contact janetemmanuel@hotmail.co.uk by 31st October 2024. For those who want to find out more about Be Well, there are leaflets in the narthex.
